I’d sack you for that!’ estate agent told by radio host

An estate agent has made an unbelievable admission live on radio that he faked a doctor’s letter to trick his employer into giving him an automatic company car.

The individual who was only named as ‘Sam’ from Edgeware in London appeared on a legal advice phone-in show on LBC.

Show host Daniel Barnett (main image), who is a barrister specialising in employment law, listened to the caller complain that his employer had failed to make adjustments for his ADHD condition (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

Legal action

Sam said he was considering legal action against the company, which he said was a large estate agency.

He said the firm hadn’t given him a ‘standing desk’, or accommodated his requests for the office music to be turned down.

But he then admitted he had been suspended for faking a doctor’s letter describing back problems.

Frankly Sam … I think they’ve got very good grounds to dismiss you.”

At that point, Barnett said: “I’d sack you for that.” And then went to say it was gross misconduct. “Frankly Sam, having worked for four months, I think they’ve got very good grounds to dismiss you,” he said.

Undaunted Sam continued by asking if he could still make a claim against the company. He also admitted he was director of a company he set up to provide estate agency services, which he had forgotten about.

Is this guy for real?

Listeners were totally unsympathetic with one saying in a text “is this guy for real?” And another said: “I feel sorry for this guy’s employer”.

Barnett ended the conversation by making the famous joke about Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and missing the point: “Apart from that Mrs Lincoln how was your night at the theatre?”
