Suzy Lamplugh Trust launches free bystander intervention training
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust has partnered with L’Oréal Paris to deliver intervention training.
It comes amid the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh.
She went missing after showing a client around a house in Fulham.
No trace of her has ever been found, but she was legally declared dead in 1994, and the investigation became a murder inquiry.
With 75% of harassment victims saying no-one helped, the need for action is urgent.”
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust was subsequently founded by her parents Diana and Paul and has pioneered personal safety as a life skill and a public policy priority. The trust also runs the National Stalking Helpline.
It has now launched a Stand Up Against Street Harassment training programme across Britain.
Developed by international NGO Right To Be, this globally approved free bystander intervention training empowers individuals to safely step in and support victims of public harassment.
Free online sessions are taking place throughout the rest of August and in September.
The need for action
The Trust said: “Suzy Lamplugh Trust marks a significant milestone this year – the 40th Anniversary of the Trust and Suzy’s disappearance. This year, they are focusing on why #40YearsShouldHaveBeenEnough to end stalking, harassment and abuse. However, the need for this work remains urgent, and lasting change requires collective effort.
“With 80% of women in the UK reporting harassment in public spaces and 75% of harassment victims saying no-one helped, the need for action is urgent.”
