Agent accused of withholding rent claimed false Propertymark membership
A lettings agent exposed by the BBC for allegedly not returning tenancy deposits and failing to pass on rent to landlords appears to be incorrectly presenting himself as a Propertymark member, The Neg can reveal.
BBC News reported this week that more than 100 tenants are owed rent from Tony Singh, whose letting agency Morgan, Payne & Knightly has multiple branches in Birmingham, Telford and Wolverhampton.
The report also revealed that landlords have claimed to be owed rent.
Trading Standards
Singh – whose full name is Amun Singh Judge – has been reported to Trading Standards.
The Negotiator has since found Singh’s LinkedIn profile where he uses the initials MNAEA.
This would suggest he is a member of the National Association of Estate Agents, better known as Propertymark, which may mislead tenants, landlords, buyers and vendors into thinking he follows the professional standards of the organisation.
A spokesperson for the estate agency trade body confirmed to The Neg that Singh is not a member and shouldn’t be using the initials on his social media profile or anywhere.
It can also be revealed that Companies House documents show that Morgan, Payne and Knightly,’s accounts, due at the end of 2025 and there is an active strike-off proposal against the business.
Companies House has been asked for comment.
Calls to to the Morgan, Payne and Knightly office go straight to its answer machine while Singh has not responded to emails requesting comment.
